Getting Into Ballet
if you want to become any kind of dancer, ballet is super good training to start with because it’s the core of dance technique. it’s also such a great workout, aaaaand it’s way fun!
krissie had her first ballet slippers on at 3 years old and has been a twinkle toes ever since. the rest of us have all taken classes to help our cheerleading and dance technique. ashlee has even taken ballet classes to help with her agility and control in soccer.
in addition to being the major must-have for dance technique, it helps strengthen your core, helps with proper placement and control of your body and limbs, amps up your overall strength and flexibility, gives you long lines, and even a little bit of grace and beauty in your movement :D.
most open class dance studios offer some sort of beginner or adult ballet class, so you don’t have to be a pro! a lot of studios will let you observe a class before signing up, and some even offer one free class to make sure you like it. don’t worry about what other people think, and don’t judge yourself either… you can’t get good at something unless you start it in the first place right?
if you’re too intimidated to take a class cold turkey, we totally suggest getting some ballet training dvds first. that way you can get a hold on the basics such as positions and names, and also get your body in good condition for class. here’s a few ballet dvds we actually have…
a lot of studios have dress codes – especially for ballet, so check with the studio you want to attend classes at to see what they would like you to wear before you go shopping. a pretty common ‘uniform’ for a ballet class is a black or pink leotard with pink, white, or nude tights, and pink or nude ballet slippers. but, some studios allow you more freedom with what you wear, and if so, then you can get dance dolled up with different leg warmers, crop sweaters, knit pants, skirts… there’s so much cute dancewear!
we picked out a pretty standard look to give an idea of what a good ballet class outfit would look like…
just for fun, we put together a cute style collage inspired by ballerinas. pretty looks for prom, a date, or a special night out.
