we take this song as being about how we create pain and struggle when we try to be something for other people, but we don’t know what’s true inside of us first. like it’s a story of a soul who has spent his life trying to be what other people have told him he is or has to be, and he lost his sense of self along the way. we know what it’s like to feel lost because we’re trying to be something we’re not for other people, but when you let go of trying to live someone else’s version of life, that’s when you can finally discover who you really are and heal. and when you find the courage to take your own path in life, down that path people who want to see you free and happy will be waiting to love you for whoever you become.
